AQ.. new whiskey lounge & restaurant, opening up...
I’ve been wondering what is gonna go into that space on Mission next door to where the Common used to be.. and it looks like it’s this new restaurant called AQ. It’s a “seasonal” restaurant where they’re apparently planning on changing the food in addition to the decor. Sure, sounds great, as long as it’s tasty.

Mid-market tax break for Twitter spurns political... →
Gah… Chris Daly, from his bar on Market street, continues to plague this city with his agenda.
Mid-market is one of the most sadly blighted areas in the city, which is especially embarrassing since it cuts right down the middle of the city. People visit union square, stumble a few blocks in the wrong direction, and land themselves in the middle of mid-market. Yuck.

Clara Street Brewing Collective
Ooo.. according to Thrillist, a new brewer has just opened up at 5th and Clara. They can’t sell beer, but you go every other Thursday at 7pm for free tastings (donations happily accepted, of course). Nice loophole. I like it.

Lucky Strike coming to the Beacon..
SFist has the details of the new bowling alley replacing the Border’s books on the first floor of the Beacon.
Yes, it’s a Lucky Strike.. the fancy bowling alley. I’ve been to the one in Hollywood and the one in New York City. They’re kinda fun, but less about the actual bowling and more about the clubby-party.
So yah… we’ll see how it goes, but bowling...

Bar Agricole Opens Monday.
Bar Agricole opens this Monday at 11th & Folsom.
The construction photos look awesome, and the Google Maps car got a nice shot of the spot, which looks like it’s going to have awesome outdoor space.
Urban Daddy reports that it’ll focus on rum, tequila and late-night fare.

another Subway.. 6th & Howard.
Yet another Subway shop is slated to open up at 6th & Howard. There’s already Subways at 7th & Mission, on Market between 8th and 9th, Market & 5th, and 6th & Bryant.
Maybe Jared is moving into west soma.
That reminds me.. I really miss the old style “V-cut” that they used to do. I wonder why they switched that.

So yah.. this Sunday, 5/9, at 7:40pm, there will be an attempt to break the world record for the “Largest Bollywood Dance.” The current record stands at 1,111 people, so with the attendance this weekend projected at somewhere around 10,000, the attempt should hopefully work…

Hmm.. The New York Times just called Sixth Street a “Gourmet Ghetto.” Cool, I guess.

San Francisco District Six Candidates
So.. this year, Chris Daly is being termed out.. Which means no more of this, hopefully:
On January 8, 2010, Daly announced to the Board of Supervisors’ Rules Committee, “I vow to use the word fuck in each of my remaining Board of Supervisors meetings.”
Anyway, the race is on, and good grief there’s a lot of candidates. 17 so far.

Gavin Announces $11.5M Loans for Mid Market...
Gavin was at showdogs yesterday announcing a pool of $11.5 million in loans earmarked for the redevelopment of mid-market. It’s really sad that a neighborhood so centrally located and well-served by public transit is such a craphole right now. So it’s nice to see it getting some love.

New Plan For Market Street Traffic
Well, the traffic calming project for Market Street continues…
According to StreetsBlog, they’re gonna make some changes to the traffic calming on Market Street.
Traffic calming is fine and all, and there’s definitely less traffic on Market, making cycling nice.. So yah, I’m all for it.
New Park @ 6th & Brannan
According to the Examiner, the strip of land owned by Caltrans at 6th & Brannan is going to become a park. They’re documenting the progress on their flickr feed.

Curbed reports that a new hotel and bar is coming the Market & 7th.. Plans include a 7,500 sqft “open-air” rooftop bar.. Sweet!!
