AQ.. new whiskey lounge & restaurant, opening up on Mission & 7th
I’ve been wondering what is gonna go into that space on Mission next door to where the Common used to be.. and it looks like it’s this new restaurant called AQ. It’s a “seasonal” restaurant where they’re apparently planning on changing the food in addition to the decor. Sure, sounds great, as long as it’s tasty.
And, according to the article on Thrillist, they have a whisky lounge! Awesome awesome awesome.
Anyway, check out the video below, but I’ll definitely be hitting up this place. Welcome to the hood, AQ!

Coming soon.. AQ Restaurant
From Grub Street:
This morning Grub Street discovers another restaurant project blooming where no restaurant was prior, and that’sAQ Restaurant, which is in the process of building out a former retail space (and condo sales office) on the ground floor of a historic brick building at 1085 Mission Street. The man behind the restaurant is 28-year-old Matt Semmelhack, a Princeton grad, real estate investor, and first-time restaurateur. The concept, thus far, is “seasonal” — the name AQ being a reference to the pricing abbreviation for “as quoted” seen on menus, usually next to seafood or anything with a market price that changes throughout the year. And there will be a lounge component, with just beer and wine. Semmelhack has been writing a blog about the location scouting and permitting process for AQ for over a year now, and he’s aiming for a late-summer opening. [Grub Street]
Sweet! New restaurant in the hood. Can’t wait to check it out.

Mid-market tax break for Twitter spurns political fight
Gah… Chris Daly, from his bar on Market street, continues to plague this city with his agenda.
Mid-market is one of the most sadly blighted areas in the city, which is especially embarrassing since it cuts right down the middle of the city. People visit union square, stumble a few blocks in the wrong direction, and land themselves in the middle of mid-market. Yuck.
Thanks to our new D6 supervisor, Jane Kim, who is progressive but seems willing to reach across the aisle when it makes sense. Awesome.
Hopefully we can get this through and really kickstart things on Market.

Clara Street Brewing Collective
Ooo.. according to Thrillist, a new brewer has just opened up at 5th and Clara. They can’t sell beer, but you go every other Thursday at 7pm for free tastings (donations happily accepted, of course). Nice loophole. I like it.

Welcome to the hood beer people!
